This year marks the 531st anniversary of Christopher Columbus’ expedition – a voyage that should have taken the Italian navigator to Asia. On October 12, 1492, his crew landed in the Caribbean instead, setting in motion a sequence of events that would lead to the European colonization of the New World. It is worth mentioning that tobacco first came to the so-called “old world” Europe.
Columbus set out with a small fleet of three ships: the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. The remains of these ships and the three subsequent expeditions are still missing, even though archaeologists and shipwreck hunters have been searching for them for decades.“The Santa Maria is considered the only ship of the First Fleet to be lost.” According to Columbus’ log, the Santa Maria ran aground on a reef off what is now Cap-Haïtien in Haiti on Christmas Eve in 1492. The hull was dismantled and used to construct the fortified village of La Navidad.In honor of Christopher Columbus, his crew, and the ships used, we have decided to release a unique version of the VILLIGER 1492 named DISCOVERY EDITION. The outside and inside of the lid show the three beautifully painted ships of Christopher Columbus in stormy seas. The appearance of the cigar bands is also remarkable, showing the Santa Maria.
Only the best tobaccos have been used for these unique cigars, rolled exclusively for this limited edition in the Dominican Republic. An Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, a Piloto Ligero binder, and Criollo ‘98 tobaccos from the Dominican Republic for the filler.The curious smoker can expect notes of roasting, espresso, nuts, and sweet spices.
