Back in the 19th century, Gustavo Bock invented the cigar ring that we know today. Now, 160 years after this innovation, we want to honor him and give a new and modern look to the brand that bears his name. The combination of quiet beige and bold blue will keep on leading newcomers into the world of tobacco but also delight existing aficionados of mild Dominican cigars.

An innovation for eternity

Gustav Bock Müller reached the New World as a courageous pioneer; he left Germany for Cuba in 1858 and established his legendary Havana company Bock y Ca., as “Don Gustavo,” which soon became the center of a vital cigar corporation.

In the 18th century, banderoles were applied to the cigars to protect the delicate hands of ladies as well as the white gloves of smokers. However, these banderoles did not consist of paper as they do today. Tsarina Catherine the Great, for instance, had silk cloth wrapped around her cigars to keep her hands clean.

Gustav Bock with his creative mind recognized this advantage and introduced a paper band which was to become today’s cigar ring. This ring served as a unique selling point for his cigar brand and transformed first his and by now nearly all hand-made cigars into a brand with recognition value – a sustainable idea!

Don Gustavo as successful entrepreneur revolutionized the island’s cigar industry. During the Cuban War of Independence, he superseded the Spanish supremacy, acquired various factories, and transformed them into Havana Cigar as well as Tobacco Factories Ltd.

He was also a smart strategist and in 1902 concentrated the production of 23 factories to seven locations but also reduced the preparation of tobacco to one factory to increase efficiency and quality.

Unique formats with a modern design

The mild BOCK cigars have a dense, aromatic taste with subtle earthy, slightly salty notes. Between fruity and creamy notes, you will discover shades of leather, walnut, and toast which are particularly suitable for newcomers and aficionados of Dominican cigars thanks to their mild flavor.

These cigars come in stylish cases with 20 pieces each which were adjusted optically to the modern design of small boxes. Initially, they are available in four formats – classic as Corona and Churchill, which are still available in the practical small-sized Tubo, as well as Panetela and Short Robusto for the brief enjoyment.

Panetela / format: L 146 mm, Ø 14.3 mm / 5 ¾ x 36 / Price: CHF 7.80 per cigar.

Corona / format: L 152 mm, Ø 17.0 mm / 6 x 43 / Price: CHF 9.50 per cigar.

Short Robusto / format: L 108 mm, Ø 19.8 mm / 4 ¼ x 50 / Price: CHF 9.00 per cigar.

Churchill / format: L 178 mm, Ø 19.1 mm / 7 x 48 / Price: CHF 13.50 per cigar.
