Environmental awareness is becoming increasingly vital. At VILLIGER, we take the following measures to reduce our ecological footprint.

Electric, efficient, zero emissions:
The VILLIGER sales representatives rely on e-scooters for their work in Berlin

The streets of Berlin are getting greener – at least for our sales representatives. Instead of conventional transportation, our staff relies on e-scooters to meet our customers, look after them, and present our latest cigars and cigarillos.

E-scooters make it possible to get around the city center quickly and travel to customers with zero emissions. A step that minimizes CO2 emissions while simultaneously setting an example: Our employees on their e-scooters stand out and always put a smile on the faces of pedestrians.

Pros and cons of using e-scooters

“A significant amount of time is saved, as there is no need to look for parking spaces. It also allows us to avoid annoying traffic jams in the city center at rush hour.”

VILLIGER employees who participated in the project have been enthusiastic and motivated. Just like everywhere else, there are also downsides to using e-scooters as a mode of transportation: Hot in summer and cold in winter. There is a risk of slipping on cobblestones or colliding with pedestrians. We continue to follow with interest how e-scooters can develop and establish themselves as an environmentally friendly means of transportation for sales representatives in Berlin and whether this will also become an option for the VILLIGER team in Switzerland.

Solar-powered production at VILLIGER in Pfeffikon - for clean energy

The production of quality cigars and cigarillos requires a significant amount of energy. VILLIGER is taking a sustainable approach here as well. We have been relying on solar energy generated on the roofs of our Pfeffikon production facilities since 2023. We installed the photovoltaic systems in 2023 when VILLIGER celebrated its 135th anniversary. A step that makes environmental and economic sense. The solar panels help cover the production facilities’ energy requirements and reduce dependence on conventional energy resources.

VILLIGER generates 25% of its electricity with solar panels

Installing the photovoltaic systems at VILLIGER allows us to produce around a quarter of our total electricity consumption. Five inverters convert the solar panels’ direct current (DC) into alternating current (AC) for internal use. The surplus electricity produced by the photovoltaic system is fed into the grid.

Recycling facilities at VILLIGER headquarters – creating an environmentally friendly office
Environmental protection is also part of the VILLIGER team’s everyday office life: We’ve installed recycling facilities at the Pfeffikon headquarters, significantly reducing waste. Efficient waste sorting is possible with PET, glass, sheet metal (cigarillo packaging), aluminum collection points, and a paper/cardboard press.

The measures mentioned above show that VILLIGER is not only committed to the quality of its products but also to a green future.

By adopting e-scooters in the sales department, utilising renewable energy in production and installing recycling facilities at the Pfeffikon headquarters, VILLIGER is demonstrating that sustainability is at the core of all our business activities.

We are fully aware that our progress so far marks only the beginning of a long-term endeavor. The VILLIGER team continuously develops new visions and projects with a positive environmental and social impact.
